Can my geological team or consultants use the auger drill?

Yes, the Kanga auger drill is easy to learn to operate and within a few hours an operator becomes quite proficient. A geologist and sampler or two geologists make an ideal team to undertake the locating, drilling, logging, sampling and rehabilitation and photograph of the hole. One person can operate the drill if required, but it is recommended that this is not for extended periods or when drilling holes deeper than 1.5m.

Is it easy to transport the Kanga auger drill?

Yes most standard 4WD tow hitches are rated to 2,500kg. The trailer weighs 750kg, the Kanga weighs 1,080kg fueled, the drill head plus bucket weigh 120kg and allow 250kg for fuel, rods, tools, spare tyres etc totaling 2,200kg.

How deep can the auger drill go?

This depends on ground conditions, depth to rock, laterite etc, in clay 6m (three rods plus starter rod) is easy. We recommend 1.5m (starter rod only) is sufficient if the insitu (non transported) clays are within 0.5m from surface which is often the case.

How Fast Can the rig drill?

Depending on conditions, 1.5m holes can generally be drilled within 2-4 minutes (including setting the jacks but excluding move or sampling time), deeper holes take significantly longer due to rod changes.

The move times depend on distance and terrain. In gentle terrain the rig can be moved with the arm extended and rod on, in rough terrain the rod needs to be removed and re-attached after move. For longer walks the rig can travel at up to 7.5km/hr.

How many hours can machine operate before refuelling is required?

The Kanga has a 45 litre fuel tank, fuel use depends on how hard the machine is operating, however we suggest an allowance of 30 litres per day. We supply 20 litre Jerrycans with the trailer.

How often do we need to service the auger drill on longer term hire?

The machine requires daily greasing and depending on conditions daily cleaning of pre-air cleaner, materials are supplied for all servicing requirements. Each of these services will take approximately 5 minutes.
